Dreamstuff Youth Theatre preformed a true classic of the Irish theatre, The Playboy of the Western World by John Millington Synge On Tuesday 28th April until Saturday 2nd May. I was lucky enough to be lights for the play, Soon the play will be up online in its entirety. Filmed by Lisa Heeran and David Galster.
This timeless, classic tells the story of Christy Mahon (Peter O’Connor) a young man who on arriving in a remote Irish tavern claims he has killed his father, much to the entertainment of the locals, especially the publican’s daughter Pegeen Mike (Aoibhin Murphy), all are in awe of his courageous deeds, until his father turns up to spoil his brave tale. When Christy attacks his father a second time thinking he has killed him this time for sure the locals instead of praising him turn on him and led by Pegeen insist he is handed over to the authorities to be punished. Christy’s life is saved when his father, beaten and bloodied, crawls back onto the scene having survived his son’s second attack and the two depart for home together, leaving Pegeen to lament losing the man she loved: “Oh my grief, I’ve lost him surely. I’ve lost the only Playboy of the Western World”.

Last Monday the 4th of May I was out filming the Living Peace Sign on Canal Square in Kilkenny. People came from half eleven to get set up and ready. By 3 o’clock people had started to come and fill the peace sign holding their balloons. The World March began in New Zealand on October 2, 2009, the anniversary of Gandhi’s birth, declared the “International Day of Nonviolence” by the United Nations. It will conclude in the Andes Mountains (Punta de Vacas, Aconcagua, Argentina) on January 2, 2010. The March is to last 90 days, three long months of travel. It will pass through all climates and seasons, from the hot summer of the tropics and the deserts, to the winter of Siberia. The American and Asian stages will be the longest, both almost a month. A permanent base of a hundred people of different nationalities will complete the journey.
Krisztina, the woman who was organizing this entire event explained that the movement was community-based, non-profit making, a project from people to people. Krisztina was helped by her friend and family. For more info on the event and the World Peace March you can visit World March Ireland or The World March

On April 25th 2009 Invisible Children hosted The RESCUE, a rally in 100 cities across ten countries, to bring attention to the plight of the children abducted and forced to fight as soldiers in Central East Africa. For the past 23 years, the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and the Government of Uganda (GoU) have been waging a war that has left nearly two million innocent civilians caught in the middle. They were asking governments and international bodies to develop a strategy and support existing efforts to rescue the child soldiers abducted by the LRA.
On the evening of April 25th, we will be “Abducted” in Dublin, in the hope of being rescued by one of the mogals. The RESCUE is a radically unique event, Which required support to ‘abduct themselves for the abducted’. We traved by foot Merrion Square Park where the “LRA Camp” was located. There, we remained ‘abducted’ until a person of great influence or cultural significance arrived and ‘RESCUED’ us by making a public statement on behalf of the child soldiers. We were rescued by the Lord Mayor of Dublin.

I was taking part with the Young Irish Film Makers. We were taking photos and filming the event, It was great to be involved with such a charity and the event was great fun in its self.
